Most manufacturers offer an extended parts warranty if the equipment is registered within a set period after installation, commonly around 60 to 90 days. Miss it and coverage typically reverts to a much shorter base term.
Warranty coverage is one of the most misunderstood parts of owning a system, usually because the difference between the parts warranty and the labor to fit them is never explained at the point of sale.
This page explains how manufacturer coverage generally works and what tends to invalidate it. We are factory-certified across the brands we carry and handle warranty work on equipment we installed and on equipment installed by someone else.
Specific terms vary by manufacturer, by model and by the date of installation, so treat what follows as how to think about it rather than as your particular contract. We will check the actual coverage on your specific unit before any work.
A manufacturer parts warranty covers the component. It does not normally cover the labor to diagnose the fault, remove the failed part, fit the replacement, or the refrigerant needed to recharge the system afterwards. On a compressor or coil replacement, that labor and refrigerant can be a substantial share of the total.
This is the moment most warranty disappointment happens: an owner is told the part is covered and reasonably assumes the job is free. Knowing the split in advance is the difference between a manageable bill and an unpleasant surprise. We tell you what is covered and what is not before we start.

Registration is frequently the owner's responsibility. Assuming the installer did it is a common and costly error. We register the systems we install and confirm it to you.
Model and serial numbers, installation date and invoice. Without them a claim becomes slow at best. Photograph the data plate on the outdoor unit; it takes ten seconds.
Some coverage is transferable to a new owner within a window, often with a fee, and some is not. Worth checking when buying or selling a house.
Installation by an unlicensed contractor, or an installation that does not comply with code. Missing documented maintenance, which most manufacturers require annually and which is the most common reason a claim is challenged. Use of non-approved replacement parts. Damage from flooding, surge or physical impact, which is an insurance matter rather than a warranty one.
The maintenance requirement is worth taking seriously, because it is invisible until you need to claim. Documented annual service both keeps the system healthy and preserves the paperwork trail a claim depends on.
We service equipment installed by other companies, including warranty work, and being factory-certified across the brands we carry means we can handle claims on them directly rather than sending you back to whoever fitted it.
Where an existing installation has a defect that would jeopardize a claim, we will tell you what we found and what it would take to correct, rather than working around it quietly. That is a more useful answer than discovering it during a claim.
Usually not. A manufacturer parts warranty covers the component itself; the diagnosis, removal, refitting and any refrigerant are typically billable. On a compressor or coil that labor can be a significant share of the job. Some installations carry a separate labor warranty, which is a different agreement from the manufacturer parts coverage.
It depends on the model, the installation date and whether it was registered. We can check coverage using the model and serial number from the data plate on the outdoor unit before doing any work, so you know where you stand first.
Often yes, and this is where extended coverage is most commonly lost. Most manufacturers require registration within roughly 60 to 90 days of installation to grant the longer parts term. We register the systems we install and confirm it, but if someone else installed yours it is worth verifying rather than assuming.
It can. Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual professional maintenance, and a claim can be denied without that record. This is the most common reason we see coverage challenged.
Yes. We are factory-certified across the brands we carry, so we can handle claims on equipment we did not install. Bring us the model and serial number and we will check the coverage.
