Financing and Leasing a New System
Air conditioners fail without warning, usually in August. Financing and leasing both exist so a failed system does not become a financial emergency as well as an uncomfortable one. We can price either one on the same equipment.
We do not publish rates or terms on this page. Financing and leasing offers change, and they depend on the equipment, the size of the job and your credit. Rather than advertise a number that may not apply to you, we quote the current options when we quote the job. Call 727-306-1700 and ask.
First question: does this system actually need replacing?
Financing is only a good deal if the purchase is the right one. Before discussing payments, the useful question is whether a repair gets you several more years.
A rough guide we apply honestly, including when it costs us the larger sale:
- Under 8 years old: almost always repair. The equipment has plenty of life left, and most failures at this age are inexpensive parts.
- 8 to 12 years: depends on the failure. A capacitor or contactor is worth fixing. A compressor or a leaking evaporator coil often is not.
- Over 12 years: a major failure usually means replacement is the better spend, because you are putting a large share of a new system's cost into old equipment.
- Any age, if the refrigerant is R-22: R-22 is no longer produced. Recharging a leaking R-22 system is increasingly expensive and is money spent on a system with a fixed remaining life.
We will give you the repair number and the replacement number, and tell you which one we would choose. If a repair is the sensible option, we will say so.
What actually changes the cost of a replacement
Two quotes for "a new three ton system" can differ by thousands, and it is usually not the badge on the condenser. The things that move the number are:
- Efficiency rating. Florida's minimum is 14.3 SEER2 on systems under 45,000 BTU. Going above the minimum costs more upfront and returns it over a long cooling season. Going far above it returns less than people expect.
- Ductwork condition. If the ducts leak, a high-efficiency system will not deliver what it is rated for. Sometimes sealing ducts and fitting a mid-range system beats a top-tier system on bad ducts, for less money.
- Electrical service. Older homes sometimes need a panel or circuit upgrade to carry modern equipment. That is a real cost and it should appear on the quote, not as a surprise on installation day.
- Coastal exposure. Close to the water, coated coils cost more and last considerably longer. Skipping them near the Gulf is usually false economy.
Leasing, as an alternative to financing
Leasing is available here as well, and it suits a different situation. Financing buys the system: you own it from the first day and pay it off over the term. A lease pays for the use of it, with less money up front and usually a lower monthly payment, and the agreement sets out what happens at the end, typically a purchase option, a renewal or removal.
The trade is straightforward. Spreading the cost further almost always costs more in total, so leasing tends to be the more expensive route if you keep the house for the full life of the equipment. It earns its place when the upfront number is the obstacle, or when you are not certain how long you are staying.
Ask us to price both. Seeing the two side by side on the same equipment is the only way to judge which one is worth it for you.
Rebates and tax credits
Federal energy-efficiency tax credits and utility rebates can reduce what you actually finance, but the amounts change from year to year and depend on the specific equipment. We will tell you what the system we are quoting currently qualifies for. Confirm any federal credit with your tax preparer and check current utility programs with your provider before counting on either.
What to have ready when you call
If you want a straight answer quickly, it helps to have the model and serial number off the outdoor unit's data plate. That tells us the age and the size of what you currently have, which is most of what we need to talk sensibly about options.

Financing and leasing questions
Do you offer financing on a new system?
Yes, financing is available on replacement systems, and so is leasing. Terms depend on the equipment, the size of the job, and your credit, so we quote them per job rather than advertising a single rate. Call 727-306-1700 and we will tell you what is currently available before you commit to anything.
What is the difference between financing and leasing a system?
With financing you own the equipment from day one and pay it off over time. With a lease you pay to use the equipment and the agreement decides what happens at the end of the term, which is usually a purchase option, a renewal, or removal. Leasing often means a lower monthly payment and less money up front, and it usually costs more over the full term. Which one is better depends on how long you plan to stay in the house and what your cash position is, so ask us to run both.
Can I finance a repair, or only a full replacement?
Financing is normally worth arranging on replacements rather than repairs. Most repairs are small enough that finance charges outweigh the benefit of spreading them. If a repair is large enough that paying it at once is difficult, tell us and we will discuss options rather than assume.
Will applying affect my credit score?
That depends on the lender and whether the check is a soft or hard pull. Ask us before you apply and we will tell you which type the current option uses. You should never be surprised by a hard credit inquiry.
Is it cheaper to repair my existing system than finance a new one?
Often, yes, and we will say so. A ten-year-old system with a failed capacitor is worth repairing. The same system with a failed compressor usually is not, because you are spending a large share of replacement cost on equipment that is already near the end of its life. We give you both numbers and the reasoning.
Do rebates or tax credits reduce what I need to finance?
Sometimes. Federal energy efficiency tax credits and utility rebates change from year to year and depend on the specific equipment installed. We will tell you what the system we are quoting currently qualifies for, and any federal credit should be confirmed with your tax preparer before you count on it.
