AC Repair

Most air conditioners do not fail all at once. They short cycle for a month, leave a damp stain under the air handler, or lose a little cooling each week until the house never quite reaches the setpoint. Fixing it at that stage costs less than fixing it after the breakdown, and this is the page for that call.

The problems that bring us out

Cooling that cannot keep up

The system runs all afternoon and the house sits three degrees above the setpoint. Lost capacity has a cause: a fouled coil, a leak, a tired compressor, or ducts dumping cold air into the attic.

Short cycling

Starting and stopping every few minutes wears the compressor faster than running ever would. Oversizing, a failing capacitor and a clogged filter all produce it, and they cost very different amounts to fix.

Humidity that will not drop

Cool but clammy is a real fault in Florida, not something to live with. It points at airflow, sizing or a system short cycling before it can wring the moisture out.

Water around the indoor unit

Almost always a blocked condensate drain. Cheap to clear, expensive to ignore, because the water goes into ceilings and flooring rather than the drain.

New noises

Grinding, buzzing and screeching each narrow the fault before we arrive. A noise that appeared this week is worth a call this week, while the part that caused it is still the only casualty.

Bills climbing without a rate change

A system working harder to deliver the same cooling shows up on the utility bill before it shows up as a failure. The usual culprits are dirty coils, low refrigerant and duct leakage.

How a repair visit works

The diagnostic fee is quoted before we dispatch, so you know the cost of the visit before a truck moves. There is no travel or mileage charge anywhere in our four-county service area.

On arrival the technician finds the fault and shows it to you rather than describing it from the invoice. You get the price of the fix before any work starts. Most repairs finish the same visit, because the parts that usually fail are the parts we carry.

When repair is the wrong answer

Some money should not be spent. A compressor replacement on a fourteen-year-old R-410A system is usually paying to keep the least efficient years of a machine's life, and we will say so in the house rather than let the invoice say it later. The honest comparison belongs on the table: what the repair costs, what a replacement costs, and how long each one buys. The reverse is just as common. A system under ten years old with a failed capacitor or contactor needs a part, not a sales pitch.

Stopping the next one

Most of what we repair in August was visible in April. A coil starting to foul, a capacitor reading weak, a drain line half blocked. That is the case for planned maintenance, and for reading up on the common failure patterns so you recognize yours early.

Common questions

How long does a repair take?

Most repairs finish in one visit, because the common failure parts ride on the truck: capacitors, contactors, fan motors, drain fittings. A visit runs an hour or two. The exception is a part we have to order, usually a board or a matched motor for an older system, and in that case you get a straight answer about the wait before we leave.

Do you repair brands you are not certified on?

Yes. We repair all makes and models, and we hold factory certifications on Carrier, Goodman, Rheem, LG, Midea, Trane, Daikin, Mitsubishi and Lennox. Certification matters most when the fix involves warranty parts or brand-specific controls, and it is why we can register and service warranty work on those brands directly.

My AC runs constantly but the house stays warm. Is that a repair?

Usually, yes. A system that runs without keeping up has lost capacity somewhere: a dirty coil, a weak compressor, low refrigerant from a leak, or ductwork bleeding cold air into the attic. It can also mean the system was undersized or oversized from the start. The diagnosis tells you which, and the fixes range from a coil cleaning to duct sealing rather than automatically meaning a new unit.

Does my system just need a refrigerant top-up?

Refrigerant does not get used up. If the level is low, it leaked, and topping up without finding the leak means paying for the same refrigerant again next summer. R-410A is being phased down and its price keeps climbing, which makes leak-and-refill an expensive habit. We find the leak, quote the repair, and let you decide with the numbers in front of you.

Will you push a replacement instead of repairing it?

No. A capacitor on a healthy eight-year-old system gets a capacitor. Where a system is past twelve years and facing a major repair, we lay out the repair option and the replacement option side by side and tell you which one we would pick in your house. Recommending replacement when a repair is the right call costs us the next twenty years of your service work.
